Lisa A. Zickuhr, MD, MHPE
DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE
Assistant Professor of Medicine
2024 Dean’s Impact Award Recipient
Lisa A. Zickuhr, MD, MHPE, is a talented clinician educator who has demonstrated an impressive track record of mentorship, sponsorship and the development of others throughout her career. Zickuhr’s enthusiasm and love of teaching and mentoring represent a great asset to the Department of Medicine and to WashU Medicine overall. Her exceptional mentorship and sponsorship have positively impacted medical students, residents, fellows and faculty alike. She has mentored dozens of trainees on innovative medical education projects and sponsors them to present their work regionally and nationally, always stepping out of the spotlight and amplifying her mentees. She is known for nominating trainees and fellow faculty for awards and opportunities. Thanks to Zickuhr’s mentorship and sponsorship, a chief resident was successfully nominated and selected for the prestigious Knowlton Award, and the department had at least a half-dozen WashU Medicine trainees and faculty presenting at this year’s national rheumatology meeting. While Zickuhr goes above and beyond for all of her mentees, spotting potential and bringing out the best in each of them, she has a particular passion and set of skills for mentoring those underrepresented in medicine (URiM). She has successfully mentored numerous trainees and junior faculty on developing projects and obtaining grants to support health equity education, mitigating bias in narrative assessments, and other similar topics.
