2024 Dean’s Impact Award Recipient

Barbara B. Warner, MD, MS, has been known as an outstanding member of our faculty since her arrival at WashU Medicine in 2007, advancing to division chief thanks in no small part to her multidisciplinary mentoring approach across disciplines and academic levels. In 2010, she served as a mentor and facilitator for a peer mentoring group through the Provost’s Office, to which she remains connected today. Her clinical training in neonatology along with her research expertise in the early gut microbiome resulted in working with medical students, MSTP and graduate students within the Center for Genome Sciences & Systems Biology. She has mentored neonatal perinatal medicine fellow trainees and instructors both clinically and through their scientific oversight committees. Her faculty and fellow sponsorships for networking opportunities in professional societies (North American Fetal Therapy Association, American Academy of Pediatrics, Pediatric Academic Society), leadership development, invited lectures and personal introductions have provided career advancement and improved trajectories for academic work. Committed to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI), she has supported junior faculty to advance DEI initiatives within the NICU, with support for Jesse Davis to develop the Fathers First Initiative within the NICU and integrate it into scholarly work with the Brown School. Warner has been a true servant leader for WashU Medicine.
