Stephanie Markovina, MD, PhD, exemplifies compassion, innovation and commitment to equity. As a clinician and expert in gynecologic and thyroid cancers, she shows unparalleled dedication. Her patient care philosophy centers on advanced radiation delivery through brachytherapy and patient-centered clinical decision-making. She made significant contributions as interim chief of Gynecologic Radiation Oncology and Brachytherapy establishing her independent research lab, influencing treatment guidelines and promoting research integration on national and international platforms. Markovina actively engages key stakeholders and community-outreach experts to connect with at-risk communities both in the St. Louis region and globally. Her efforts aim to maximize the impact of her research to improve outcomes for cervical cancer, demonstrating a commitment to advancing health care access and improving care on a broader scale. She is a distinguished educator and mentor, receiving many awards for teaching excellence. Programs like RAD SUMMER Fellowship highlight her commitment to recruiting and nurturing the next generation of trainees, and global research collaborations in areas like sub-Saharan Africa show an emphasis on reaching patients most in need.
