2024 Dean’s Impact Award Recipient

Every institution has hidden gems. These individuals not only lead by example, but nurture and cultivate others to make the collective community better. Steven L. Brody, MD, is one of these hidden gems that makes WashU Medicine shine. An established leader in the field of pulmonary and critical care medicine, he is an internationally recognized cell biologist who has spent his career examining the role of motile cilia in lung diseases. Beyond what can be ascertained from the accomplishments reflected in his CV, however, is his deep commitment to the success of others. He has mentored a generation of clinicians, physician scientists and investigators in laboratory and clinical settings. Due to his mentoring excellence, Brody won the coveted Andy Tager Award for Excellence in Mentoring from the American Thoracic Society. His dedication, passion and exceptional mentorship have created a vibrant community at WashU Medicine and beyond, and for these reasons, he represents the essence of the Dean’s Impact Award for Mentorship.
