Through her passion for patient care, outstanding mentorship and exceptional research endeavors, Ana María Arbeláez, MD, MSCI, has created a lasting impact and further advanced the institution’s commitment to mentorship and research excellence. Arbeláez’s remarkable contributions have extended beyond Washington University to the broader academic community. She is among the department’s most committed mentors and has successfully trained upwards of 100 scholars, residents, fellows and junior faculty at WashU Medicine and at other institutions through her research activities and several NIH-funded training programs, demonstrating her exceptional capabilities in guiding and nurturing talent. She has served as the primary mentor to over 30 trainees, most of whom have pursued careers in academic medicine. In her role as the division chief of pediatric endocrinology, Arbeláez has reorganized the outpatient and inpatient clinical rotation experience for students, pediatric residents and endocrine fellows, resulting in the successful graduation of one to two board-certified pediatric endocrine trainees per year. Her efforts have revitalized the educational experience, empowering trainees to flourish in their future careers. She has earned recognition and accolades, including teaching awards and invitations to speak at prestigious national meetings. Her mentorship contributions to WashU Medicine’s academic mission and community are invaluable and tremendous.
