Beverly S. Brozanski, MD, is an internationally recognized leader in pediatric quality improvement and clinical excellence, having raised the standards of care and improved the outcomes for high-risk patients admitted to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. She has tremendously impacted the overall quality, safety and care and has taught and mentored numerous nurses, medical students, residents, fellows and faculty in the art and science of quality improvement. Specifically, she has worked diligently to develop protocols to improve outcomes in very low birth weight babies, prevent bronchopulmonary dysplasia, eliminate central line-associated bloodstream infection, reduce unplanned extubations, and decrease the number of skin injuries and surgical site infections. Brozanski has been instrumental in the mentorship, training and education of neonatal nurse practitioners, providing a pipeline for such professionals in neonatal intensive care units. Over the years, she has helped develop core curriculum for medical students, residents and fellows training in neonatology. Her work has touched every patient and health-care provider at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
