2024 Dean’s Impact Award Recipient

Monica Shokeen, PhD, leads a successful lab studying novel molecular imaging agents, trains and mentors the next generation of imaging scientists, leads Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology’s initiatives in diversity, equity, inclusion and justice, and is a member of the Biophotonics Research Center. Shokeen has demonstrated her commitment to mentoring with an emphasis on promoting diversity and advancing women’s careers time and again. She is an integral member of the leadership team for the Imaging Sciences Pathway, where she is responsible for academic programming, serves as a core faculty mentor and guides numerous mentees. Her leadership of MIR’s T32 program since 2019 enables department faculty to train students and fellows in the program. In addition to influencing this international group’s impact on advancing women’s careers in science, she brought these principles back to WashU Medicine, where she applies equity in her approach to mentoring and serves as a role model to the department for mentoring trainees and faculty to enhance equity and diversity.
