Soe S. Mar, MD

Soe S. Mar, MD, is one of the most impactful leaders and mentors in the Department of Neurology. She has served as residency program director for the pediatric neurology residency since 2014, and before that, she was the associate program director beginning in 2010. During that time, she has directly shaped the careers of nearly 60 pediatric neurology trainees. She is legendary for the personal care that she gives her residents. She routinely hosts residents in her home for dinners, and on holidays she will bring in home-cooked meals of curry from her native Myanmar. Mar listens carefully to residents both individually and as a group. When a resident is struggling with personal or emotional challenges, they can often be found in her office receiving the support that they need. When a resident requires extra assistance in their training, Mar is on the front line coaching and supporting them. Mar fearlessly challenges hierarchy and traditions for the wellbeing of her residents. Mar is the pediatric neurologist that the residents aspire to become. Known for tackling the toughest clinical cases with tenacity and insight, she solves clinical mysteries that no one else can. She is relentless in her devotion to her patients. She also models teamwork within the Division of Pediatric Neurology.
