2023 Dean’s Impact Award Recipient

Stacey L. House, MD, PhD, supported multiple university initiatives to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. She served as an active member of both the COVID-19 Clinical Studies Committee and the COVID-19 Clinical Studies Prioritization Committee, reviewing clinical trials for COVID-19 therapeutics. At a time when it was difficult to find health care workers to conduct COVID-19 testing, House expanded the Emergency Care Research Core that she directs to provide COVID-19 testing for WashU ExpressCare as well as over 1000 hours of coverage for the Danforth Campus COVID-19 testing site. She also collaborated with investigators across specialties to plan and provide enrollment of over 2500 subjects in the university’s COVID-19 sample biobank initiative as well as studies to support the development of the Elizabethe H. and James S. McDonnell III Genome Institute’s saliva-based COVID-19 assay. House has also pursued her own research initiatives to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. She has served as principal investigator for over 30 studies in the area of COVID-19 diagnostics which have enrolled over 7,000 subjects since the onset of the pandemic. Many of these studies were funded through the NIH RADx initiative to increase access to COVID-19 point-of-care and at-home testing platforms. She currently serves as the principal investigator for a multidisciplinary CDC UO1 focused on understanding immune response and vaccine effectiveness for COVID-19 vaccines in the real world.
